I’m not entirely sure quite how the previous couple of months have slipped past on a current of tea, kimchee and music by Salem, but it’s here! It’s time for April’s news!
Japan Fashion Week: Despite Japan Fashion Week being postponed, we’d like to give all the designers and individuals involved a huge congratulations! Showing true spirit and determination, this season’s Japan Fashion Week was a triumph. We hope our continuing coverage can do it justice; you can keep up to date with the latest collections via the JFW tag.
Birthday Wishes: On the 6th April, we celebrated Tokyo Telephone’s first anniversary. I can’t believe it’s been a year, what a roller-coaster! See the full conversation between me and Samuel; we talk about everything from manbas to our own personal styles – take a look at the Tokyo Telephone interview here.
Snap Snap: We’ve been popping up on a few Japanese street fashion websites lately – Samuel on fashionsnap, Rebecca on fashionsnap, Future People/Mamy’s Wonderland, Samuel on Mityp, Rebecca on Mityp – gosh! I loath having my photo taken, so this was actually a big step for me! Thank you to all the lovely photographers we’ve met recently…
Tokyo Tumblrphone: You may have noticed that we’ve re-jiggled a few things on the site (for one thing, it should load much faster), and we’ve dispensed with the gallery page at long last. As its replacement, we’re happy to introduce our exciting shiny new tumblr – follow us for the best bits of Japanese fashion and any other weird things that catch our eyes along the way!
A Bit of a Bargain: Samuel put together an excellent guide to that taboo subject – how to haggle in Japan. It’s a great resource, so make sure you give haggling a go! Rebecca also came up with a list of top shopping tips for Japan; now there’s no excuse not to make the most of Japanese retail… it’s helping the economy too, right?
NOMI Me: Head over to our NOMI sister site to see what DIY fashion projects we’ve been busy with recently. We’re working on more right now (including an amazing black & white jacket) so stay tuned for more soon.
Dolly Style: After almost literally tripping over Junie Moon in Daikanyama, Rebecca explored the world of customised Blythe dolls and boy do those tiny fashionistas know how to rock a ton of different styles! Actually quite jealous.
All-in-One: Samuel got stuck into the tsunagi – find out more about the history and fashion of this unique garment. Uber-manly, or not for everyone?
Links and Sites: We’re always on the look out for interesting and fabulous blogs & sites to add to our phone book – leave us a comment or drop us a line at hello @ tokyotelephone.com if you’d like to be added to our ever-growing list. Content from Tokyo Telephone is also available on flickr, livejournal, tumblr and twitter too – if you like what we do, then feel free to spread the word with our shiny new social media links at the bottom of each article; look at them pop up! We’re also featured on Glam UK‘s fashion channel – a great way to see what’s going on on the rest of the network.
We’re knee-deep in a really exciting project right now, and I’m bursting to tell everyone about it! Oh dear, I’ll have to keep you guessing for a little while longer…
