I was reading through my introduction to Itazura when it dawned on me that I hadn’t included half of my favorite items from the shop, so here we go again! Needless to say, I would highly advise you to read the original post before you begin so you get an idea of the new kind of Japanese vintage fashion that this place focuses on, as otherwise this might just look like a random aggregation of culture, but trust me, there is method to this particular madness.

We have been discussing the influence of Akihabara culture on fashion quite recently on Tokyo Telephone. It all began with the Akihabara Fashion Week, then a look into 5okai, the shop that is leading the way in the future of Akihabara fashion, but if that represents where we are going, where are we right now in terms of Japanese fashion with Akihabara influences? The last time I saw SASQUATCHfabrix (the second most ridiculous name in Japanese fashion) it was at Versus Tokyo when they had a selection of their S/S 2012 paraded around the Tokyo Midtown area by a team of performing guerrilla clowns (the second most ridiculous show of JFW) as part of Versus Tokyo. Scramble Market, a corner boutique in La Foret, is probably one of our favourite places in Tokyo… I know we say that a lot, but the depth and breadth of fashion in Tokyo is quite breath-taking and the result is that we have more than a dozen ‘favourite’ places!

Common Sleeve is literally the best idea in underground Japanese fashion right now, I wrote about the A/W 2011 collection an age ago here, but it is with this latest collection that the concept seems to be coming together. It’s been a wee while since I last featured Monomania here on Tokyo Telephone, but I think it’s high time we took another look at this youthful street fashion brand again. I was a little surprised to see that Monomania had arguably the longest line for the cash register during La Foret’s post-New Year sale; the queue stretched right around the floor and was no doubt helped by all items being priced at under Y1000! Nonetheless, it seemed that Monomania’s fans were out in force that day, and since then I’ve been seeing a lot more from Monomania popping up on the streets of Tokyo.

The greatest realization you will ever have in Tokyo, is that there will always be more to see.
