Yoshio Kubo A/W 2012-13 Collection – Technical Textiles

By Samuel On May 15, 2012 · Add Comment

Yoshio Kubo went back to basics for his A/W 2012-13 collection held during Tokyo Fashion Week at the Chichibunomiya rugby stadium.  The cold clean outdoors location and stripped back DJing from DJ Krush was a perfect match for a collection that would see conventional outdoors wear refined, and during that remix given fresh direction.  The unnamed collection was a celebration of returning to the designer’s love of textiles and in particular of finding ways to create a whole ensemble from a single textile, which I must say he did with rare skill that avoided the club kid look and kept [...]

GalaabenD A/W 2012-13 Collection – Life

By Samuel On May 14, 2012 · 2 Comments

Recently I have rediscovered my affection for slightly more formal wear by virtue of having to wear a suit regularly for the first time in many years, and the journey back to obsessing about every little detail that it is possible to alter in the suit templete has been a whole lot of fun.  It strikes me that once you set yourself the task of adhering to an established norm, every little change to that formular is exaggerated tenfold, something that always plays into Japanese designers’ ability with the detailing.  GalaabenD’s latest collection does just that, but not with the deconstruction of [...]

ETW. Vonneguet A/W 2012-13 Collection – The Other Half – Part 2

By Samuel On May 13, 2012 · 2 Comments

Having looked at Etw. Vonneguet’s A/W 2012-13 Tokyo Fashion Week runway show yesterday, I thought we would continue on to the showroom and complete the picture.  I can’t help but think that in the internet age that we find ourselves in, the latter is often the most interesting to the general public, who are keen to actually start planning their purchases seconds after the collection is unveiled.  Certainly the turnaround time for people placing pre-orders and actually receiving them seems to be being driven down with each [...]

ETW. Vonneguet A/W 2012-13 Collection – Half – Part 1

By Samuel On May 12, 2012 · 1 Comment

Etw. Vonneguet is a brand increasingly known for its designer Olga’s differing creative direction and desire to challenge the notion of how a designer relates to their work and their audience.  She has taken models walking through the streets of Harajuku in guerrilla exhibitions, presented collection using 3D modeling, created perfumes that accompany each season and was memorably the only designer to stick to her schedule in the fashion week that was mostly cancelled after the events of March 2011.  This has all brought her brand more and more success with every season, and now with a LaForet stockist (CLICK TO READ

Ne-Net A/W 2012 – Living Together, Being Together

By Rebecca On May 11, 2012 · 3 Comments

The first thing that came to mind when I saw this winter collection from Ne-Net was that some hikers had been on the mushrooms (scroll down, you’ll see!). I think it woud be kind of easy to just write this off as just another ‘wacky’ show, just another crazy catwalk… but I think Ne-Net is actually far too popular to reduce it to ‘just something‘. Okay, you’re going to see many people wandering around in head-to-toe in Ginza or Omotesando, but it does have an incredibly loyal cult following (as do many other similar brands such as Mercibeaucoup, [...]
