Toga is a bit of a new one on me, I can’t help but think damn, where have you been Toga? This what I love about Tokyo Telephone and Japanese fashion – there’s always someone new, there’s always fresh talent and boundaries being pushed. I love Japanese fashion even more than when we started this site, and that’s really saying something!
I think my own style has been in a state of constant change over the past year and a half as with Tokyo Telephone itself, and there’s something about Toga that’s striking just the right chord with me right now. I’ve been rediscovering my teenage goth and feeling more adventurous about everything from hair to make-up and jewellery. There’s also a lot going on behind the scenes at Telephone Towers (amazing things!), so I feel like I’ve grown up at the same time as looking back at myself a decade ago. I feel a little like I’ve been in limbo for the past month or so – I just can’t bring myself to fall into summer clothes at all – and, in some ways, I want to build a more mature wardrobe, but I don’t want to let go of my darker roots and newfound sense of sartorial daring. This is where Toga comes in…
I can definitely see myself investing in quite a few pieces when this collection hits the stores later this year – I’m already mentally setting aside the yen!
Love: layering skirts, sheer fabric, embellished stockings, fabulous black trousers and the best jacket I’ve seen for a while! Phwoah!
Love: beautiful tailoring and beautiful shoes, more sheer fabric, half-maxi skirts.
Love: even more black trousers – heaven!, high waists, large sleeves.
Love: wide sash belt, mint green and black, wrist bows.
Love: navy blue fur, masculine touches, black leather gloves and a white shirt. (Dribbling)
Love: just love. And dip-dyed hair.
So there’s a look at what you can expect from Toga, and hopefully my own wardrobe, soon. I’ll be taking a look at Togo’s sister brand Toga Pulla next time…
