Samuel & I are pretty lucky with where we live in England – I think we have more vintage and secondhand shops within ten minutes walk than pretty much any other town! It seems that Tokyo is heading in this direction too…

Vintage shops in Japan have always existed, but it’s only really within the past year or so, with the rise of dolly style fashion, that they’re really grown in popularity and started to carve out a little niche for themselves within ‘mainstream’ fashion. Here’s a selection of some of the best Tokyo vintage shops:

Possibly one of the most up-and-coming vintage shop in the Shibuya area, Grimore has legions of fans that adore it’s eclectic mix of antique fashions. Everything is so tightly packed into shop that it feels like you might find the entrance to Narnia if you look hard enough!

Find Grimoire: 7th floor Terusu Jinnan, 1-10-7 Jinnan, Shibuya, Tokyo, open weekdays 1pm – 8pm & weekends 12pm – 8pm

Offering the most discerning of shoppers the best in second-hand designer items, Hypnotique is a must-see. For those who like a rummage as much as high-end brands, why not pop in to this charming little boutique and see what you can find?

Find Hypnotique: 2nd floor Ido Building, 1-13-4 Jinnan, Shibuya, Tokyo, open 12pm – 8pm everyday

We couldn’t forget about vintage fashion for men! If you’re in the mood for some quality vintage Americana, then Lemontea is a haven for all things classic – moustaches and pipes must be supplied by the shopper!

Find Leamontea: 1st floor, 6-11-8 Jingumae, Shibuya, Tokyo, open 12pm – 8pm

For all those wishing to get a taste of Tokyo’s fabulous vintage scene, I do highly recommend using these shops as a starting point, and then hopefully you’ll get the inspiration to explore the boutiques and find your own treasure.  You never know what might be waiting for you!
