WC, WC: we have loved you through your potty-phase, we loved your Kumatan explosions and banana trousers… This Autumn is slightly less insane in the world of Chinatsu Wakastuki, but her take on Shibu-Hara (Shibuya & Harajuku) is still as individual and creative as ever.
This season under the heading of ‘casual bohemian‘ (or ‘bohe-casu’ or some other new Japanification!) sees Chinatsu building on the ‘new vintage’ look from the summer season. There’s still a dose of Americana here in denim and cowboy boots, but there’s a more feminine look with peasant blouses and longer skirts too. I think it also has that ‘blogger’ touch that so many of the Japanese brands are exploring, which is why it my not look quite as fresh to those of us who read fashion blogs daily, yet this look still has an edgier currency in Japanese fashion right now. As I mentioned in the beginning of this post, there’s less of the gimmicky side of WC in these collection photos (rest assured that there’s still nonsensical prints and fun accessories to be released), so perhaps this is Ms.WC growing up? These photos themselves certainly feel more mature in the styling, maybe it’s the blogger influence? What do you think?
That red skirt is wonderful, and I’m already quite taken with the huge studded belt.
Relaxed and casual – the bohemian herself.
Haha, I love the giant leopard and chair! Oh, and um, the clothes too?
Baseball style (dress?), check shirts and nerd glasses – it’s not exactly groundbreaking, but we do like it.
That is one chic leopard. I really like the combination of animal print trousers and cut-out denim shirt here. Oh, and is that a sukajyan I see too?
It wouldn’t be a WC collection without something furry and animalistic. Awesome.
Oh, hello Kumatan! Some nice autumnal colours there on the left, and a great floral piece on the right.
Um, well, I don’t think you can get much more bloggy than that. Unless she was wearing the ubiquitous Litas, perhaps?! (No, I do not have a pair.)
Very pretty in wide leg 70s trousers and wide brim hat – is it just me, or is it a bit summery? Love the knee high furry boots though, wow!
I think this is quite a divisive collection to come from WC – I can see that while many will mourn the loss of pepper prints and toilet humour, more will be attracted by the sheer wearability of these clothes. Yes, you don’t have PEE on your leggings, but on the other hand any of these items will fit nicely in your existing wardrobe and will get plenty of wear. I think the question you have to ask yourself here is is that enough for you?
